Sasha Papernik
Acoustic / Pop / Indie
The classically-trained pianist Sasha Papernik blends Tango,
Jazz, 30s European Nightclub, and, most surprisingly,
Schubert into her new songs for solo voice and piano. One
reviewer noted: "With slower beats
and simpler chords, her inclinations might have taken her
into folk, given her propensity for ballad-like narratives
and wistful images. As it is, the flurry of fingers behind
her voice locates the energy somewhere in between Broadway
and a slinky Casablanca evening club..." Currently, she is
producing her first album of original songs and performing
at venues in New York City and the Boston area. |

Kagero
Japanese Gypsy Rock Band
"Echoes of bossanova, Radiohead, Elvis Costello, everything
sounds like this band should be performing in a Paris café
to a room full of expatriates. -Ben
Kreiger, Jezebel Music
Kagero's gypsy-flavored acoustic rock is knocking New York's
indie scene on its tushy. The sound has been described as a
melting pot of tonalities and rhythms from Asia, the Middle
East and Eastern Europe. Kagero pulls their core rock sound
from David Bowie and Neil Young, and adds the gypsy flavor
of the violin found in the works of Stephane Grappelli. With
a high-energy show that entices even the most jaded hipster
into busting a gleefully bohemian move, Kagero's world music
goulash is very tasty – even if you don't always know what's
you're eating. Just call them your local neighborhood urban-gypsophonic,
border-jumping, international debtor's prison groove-loving
feelgood band next door. |

Book Reading Event
Michael Cantwell
will read excerpts from his latest book:
Chasing Mayan Dreams:
Adventures in the Mexican Rain
Forest
In this historical adventure novel, a photojournalist
fleeing Nazi Germany, joins an archaeological expedition
into the Mexican rain forest. There, she finds love and the
mission that will change her life.
Book Description
At the height of World War II, Erika Boeshure, a
photojournalist, flees Nazi Germany and goes to Mexico on
assignment for a New York magazine. There, in a sleepy
Mexican village on the edge of the jungle, she meets Claus
Boehm, a Danish-born archaeologist who is struggling to
restore a career shattered by alcoholism. Erika is inspired
to write about Claus and his quest to find Menche, a
legendary city of the ancient Maya. She talks him into
letting her join his expedition.
In the heart of the rain forest, the explorers run into a
rival expedition that plans to exploit the rain forest.
Finally, they meet the elusive Lacandon Indians, descendants
of the ancient Maya who have retreated into the forest to
escape the encroachments of Western civilization. The son of
the chief joins their search for the lost city of the Gods
in order to redeem his sins.
For Erika, the perils of the quest stretch her courage and
physical resources. Amidst the mounting dangers, she and
Claus fall in love. They vow that should they survive the
search for Menche, they will dedicate themselves to saving
the endangered rain forest and the Lacandon Indians. |

CD RELEASE PARTY
Emily White
Emily White's
sophomore release "12 Ways to Live" delves into new
territory for the Chicago singer/songwriter. She's still
playing her signature guitar lines and singing the
disarmingly honest lyrics that have made her popular with
fans throughout the country, but the new
album takes a decidedly more indie approach to the folk-rock
style that has garnered attention in songwriting circles.
Emily has been performing throughout the Midwest and
Northeast over the past two years, sharing her introspective
songs and candid stage presence with
audiences from Omaha to Miami. Check out her music at
www.emily-white.com and be sure to come to the NYC CD

Wild-Wood
Acoustic / Folk / Folk Rock
Wild-Wood formed in the summer of 2005, the daydream
realized of singer-songwriter Tony Lechner. The Northampton,
MA band owes its sultry
sound to Lechner’s talented songwriting and the belief of
its members in the pure and simple beauty of the human voice
accompanied by acoustic
wooden instruments.
With foundations in folk, bluegrass, jazz, and old-fashioned
rock and roll, the group melds sweet vocal harmonies with
the sounds of fiddle, upright bass, mandolin, drums, guitar,
and piano to create a sound that appeals to people of all
ages and musical tastes. |

Katie Arnold
Acoustic / Pop / Folk
Hailing from the outskirts of D.C., singer/songwriter
Katie Arnold has been writing music for the last 20
years. She started out on piano as a child, picked up
a guitar in college, and didn't discover the unleashed
power of her voice until her early twenties. With
influences ranging from Emmylou Harris to The
Cranberries, this up and coming artist is carving out
a niche for herself in the indie-acoustic music scene
of New York City. Katie’s passion-filled songs have a
fearless, yet graceful way of forcing people to stop
and recognize that a life untested is a life unlived.
“Her skilled vocals and song writing ability mark
Katie Arnold as a gifted talent.” -- Dave Kellogg,
syndicated radio personality
Jodie Manross
Folk Rock / Acoustic / Blues
“Her crisp voice and illuminative songcraft belie her
diminutive stature…equal parts wistful and urgent, it’s
atmospheric music that will touch your heart and mind.”
-Los Angeles' Entertainment Weekly
“It’s no wonder why people rave about her power to breathe
life into a song.”
- Boone, NC’s The Mountain Times
“Jodie’s voice is strong, rarefied and, to risk hyperbole,
maybe even angelic.”
– Knoxville, TN’s Metropulse
“Manross’ rafter-rattling vocals can shatter even the
hardest heart.
–Charlotte, NC’s Creative Loafing
With her acoustic-based, blues-influenced folk rock, Jodie
Manross has become one of Tennessee’s --and now New YorkCity--top
singer-songwriters. Known as “the little woman with the big
voice,” Jodie possesses a powerful voice much larger than
her size and surprises audiences with her soulful delivery
of songs |

Stephanie Nilles
Funk / Fusion / Italian pop
Born in Chicago to a chemical engineer and an architect,
Stephanie Nilles is a musician of various genres by sheer
accident. At 17, she was a semi-finalist at the Young
Concert Artists' International Competition and at 22 had
graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a
degree in classical piano performance. These days, she's
running around town playing and singing her own
politically-infused funk/blues/anti-folk tunes. She has
appeared at the Sidewalk Café, The Cutting Room, and the
Bitter End, and has collaborated with artists ranging from
bluegrass fiddlers to burlesque performers. |
